Candela Corporations Smoothbeam laser is a 1450nm diode for the treatment of acne. The Smoothbeam targets acne at the primary structure, the sebaceous gland. Heat from the diode laser stimulates the collagen to remodel itself and denatures the oil glands all while protecting the epidermal layer of the skin. This treatment is effective not only for acne, but also for softening acne scars and decreasing fine lines and wrinkles.
Smoothbeam treatments can be done on any skin type. Sessions are reported to feel like rubber bands snapping, so topical anesthesia is often used for added patient comport. During the procedure to decrease the heat felt, the skin is cooled with the patented dynamic cooling device of cryogen, made famous by Candela lasers. After treatment side effects can include hyper or hypo-pigmentation, redness and in uncommon instances scarring. 2-6 sessions are needed at 4-6 week intervals for optimal benefit. Gradual results can start to be seen after the second or third treatment. Maintenance treatments are recommended to keep the oil producing gland working at normal production. |
