Omnilux is a mechanical treatment that uses a Light Emitting Diode (LED) to care for a range of dermatologic conditions. Approved by the FDA for acne, this light based energy therapy performs quick painless skin treatments. There are four Omnilux systems that reportedly alleviate symptoms associated with acne, sun damage, pre skin cancers, skin rejuvenation, vitilago, muscle aches and some wound healing. The treatment is not a laser or an intense pulsed light (IPL) system. It light energy therapy without heat to treat skin without damaging sub dermal tissue like some laser or IPL treatments.
Propionibacterium acnes (p.acnes), the skin bacteria that is responsible for acne is targeted by the Omnilux light. Natural chemicals produced by the bacteria are sensitive to light at specific wavelengths. The Omnilux stimulates a chemical process within the bacterial cells to neutralize and kill them. Once the p.acnes is eradicated, the skin has no further irritants and the inflammation then disappears. With the inflammation under control and the bacteria destroyed sebaceous glands that had been overproducing sebum return to normal oil production. The skin returns to normal balance and redness and irritations disappear, promoting healthier skin.
Treatment results have been reported comparable to IPL, laser resurfacing and some cosmetic surgical procedures. Omnilux is non ablative and has no downtime. |
